Passionate Blogger - Blog Points System

The Passionate Blogger — Blog Points System is based on a spreadsheet originally created by Eve at Confessions of a Housewife. Eve decided to create the spreadsheet because of a post at problogger.net. I decided to make some changes to Eve’s fine spreadsheet and refine the system to better work for myself and my readers.

This new version of The Blog Points System can help you to motivate yourself, better organize yourself, and improve your blogging systems. If you have been looking for an easy way to track your blogging efforts and set daily blogging goals this Blog Points System is for you.

Let me show you how using a simple points system can improve your blogging.

How To Use The Passionate Blogger Blog Points System

Sometimes it is hard to determine what you have done on a particular day and find ways to improve your level of productivity. By using this system you can track your blogging efforts and quickly gauge your daily productivity. Below is a peak at the spreadsheet.

Here is the list of blogging related activities that are included on the spreadsheet that you can track to motivate you to reach your blogging goals.

  • write a long blog post — 10 points
  • write a short blog post — 5 points
  • comment on a site I’ve commented on before — 2 points
  • comment on a site I’ve never commented on before — 5 points
  • respond to comments on my blog — 1 point
  • install a new feature/plug-in, etc. — 10 points
  • email another blogger with a link to a relevant post — 2 points
  • IM conversation with a blogger in my niche — 3 points
  • answer a reader’s question via email — 2 points
  • submit post to a blog carnival — 5 points
  • partner with another blogger — 10 points
  • create promotional things for your visitors to use — 5 points
  • create a plan for a blueprint or series of articles — 20 points
  • submit a post to Digg and/or StumbleUpon — 1 point
  • set up a profile on a social networking site — 10 points
  • submit your site to a directory/search engine — 2 points

How To Earn Points

Each of these activities have a different point value. The standard goal is to accumulate 50 total points each day (you can set your daily point goal to anything you want.) You can use any combination of activities on the list to meet your daily goal. As an example, here is what I did today to reach my goal for my blog PassionateAmerica.com

  • 10 points 1 long blog post
  • 20 points 4 short blog posts
  •   6 points responded to 6 comments on my blog
  • 10 points installed 1 new plugin
  •   2 points emailed another blogger with a link
  •   3 points IM another blogger in my niche
  •   1 points submitted a post to StumbleUpon
  • 52 points total

It is that easy! Use any combination of activities on the list to reach your daily goal. You can also add or delete any list items to better customize the system for your needs. I have been using the Blog Points System to track my progress on my 2 blogs and I know it has helped encourage me to accomplish more each day. Download the Passionate Blogger — Blog Points System and start tracking your progress to the top of your niche.
